Holy crap, Mr. Keillor.
For various reasons, I'm not a fan of Prairie Home Companion. But today they have:
1. Martin Sheen.
2. Arlo Guthrie.
3. Steve Martin.

I think this is how this particular radio show goes "balls to the wall."

The S-Bomb will love you more knowing that you're not a fan of Prairie Home Companion. Sometimes she feels like she's alone in this dog-eat-dog world. Personally, I don't have much of an opinion about the show, but I prefer the Writer's Almanac.

I also prefer Writer's Almanac. I think I may have mentioned how that helped bring me out of my depressive period several years ago.

WRT why I don't like it, it happened when Reagan died. Keillor did his thing and, rather unemotionally, mentioned the fact in his introductory monologue. Before he could go on, about a third of the crowd (or more--hard to tell) erupted in to applause and cheering. I was disgusted. When it died down, Keillor went on to very briefly highlight his life and career, like he does for anyone he does a death announcement for in his monologues. Then he moved on. So my beef is not with Keillor. It's simply that I feel like I'm in poor company when I listen to the show.

Be careful around whom you say those things, Minnesotans are a cliquey bunch, and they love their patron saint, Garrison Keillor (after Martin Luther).

I've also heard that Keillor can be kind of an intense ass to work with. So yeah, I'll watch it.

And did I mention the depressive-rescue bit to you? It's worth a mention, but it's just over the line of what I'd want to discuss in an open place.

And since you're an editor, I'll mention that I meant "into," not "in to."

"...for whom he does a death announcement in his monologues" is pushing it.

Oh, and I heard an explanation of the origin of the phrase "balls to the wall." It has to do with ball governors. If the shaft is spinning very fast and the balls on the governor unit are waaaay out there, then there it is.
